We got a dog today. We decided not to wait and try to get an elusive field spaniel and instead we visited our local animal shelters.
We first went to the Stratham SPCA and found a dog we liked, but some people in front of us adopted him.
We then went to Dover to see what the Cocheco Valley Humane Society had for available dogs. That place was a little scary - the dogs there looked mean and barked a lot. One dog tried to attack George through its cage.
Despite the chaos we found a cute young dog - a water spaniel/hound mix. We took her outside and walked her around for a bit and found that she was very gentle and well-mannered. We made the decision to get her and completed the paperwork!
So, the Snow's finally have a dog again. We were so ready! Here are some pictures of Ripley, our new dog.

oh my god jackie!
she is sooooo adorable. looks like you lucked out on this one and you gave her a wonderful home! love the name too-- did u name her?
look at those BIG paws!
how old?
Here are some more details:
The shelter folks believe she is 9 months old. She came from a shelter in Indiana and got to Dover last week. She was at the Indiana shelter in mid-August - perhaps earlier.
Her official name was "Virginia" but the shelter staff said she did not know it so it would okay to change her name. We changed it to Ripley which was a name we had picked out for a girl dog.
I think this dog just became available for adoption today and got her medical clearance. I really can't believe that such a nice dog was at the shelter and available. We are very lucky!
Great idea to visit the shelter. All three of our cats were from the shelter and they turned out to be great pets.
Ripley is very cute. I can't wait to see her!
What a great surprise! She looks like a real sweetie. Pound puppies are always the best :)
